My Bio

As soon as I became aware that being a singer could be a career choice, I had a plan. At the age of 6, I decided “what I was gonna be when I grew up. I sang wherever and whatever I could. Singing was more important than the style of music. Little did I know that this was key.

Over the years I was exposed to all styles of music from jazz and big band to country and pop. My earliest influences were those from my Grandmother’s record collection, which included Pasty Cline, Sarah Vaughn and Patti Page. All of this would eventually define who I was as an artist.

My debut CD, “Like a Butterfly: reflects who I am today as well as the influences that have been ingrained in my musical memory since childhood. Moving to Nashville an immersing myself in the rich songwriting community was pivotal. Writing with some of the industry’s finest helped me to learn the craft necessary to mold all my influences into a sound and style that is unique.

The CD includes 12 tracks including 10 originals. It’s inspiration comes from the music of artists like Sarah Vaughn, Ray Charles, Patti Page and Emmylou Harris and my experience from having toured as a background vocalist with George Jones, Lorrie Morgan and Toby Keith.”

I’ve appeared on several CDs and countless TV shows and specials with them as well as other artists inlcuding Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.

“Like a Butterfly” is an opportunity to share a gift and my passion - music.

On a recent Canadian tour, I thought it would be neat when I had a day off and could go out for a nice dinner to try only Canadian wines. I don’t recall every drinking any - there a many to enjoy. This is about two of my favorites.

Favorite Place or Frequent Hangout?

The Charcoal Steak House in Kitchener was wonderful. The steak was perfect, the ambience wonderful the wine list great and the staff knowledgeable and pleasant. The Five Fisherman in Halifax, NS was a delight - the mussels - oh my gosh! They also had my favorite desert for the tour.

What made the moment

At the Charcoal Steak House I had the Pillitteri Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 VQA from the Niagara Peninsula - Ontario, Canada - perfect!

At the Five Fisherman I had the 20 Bees by Four Mile Creek 2006 unoaked chardonnay. This too was perfect with my meal. The all you care to eat salad and mussel bar.

Others involved

I was with some of the band and crew at each experience.

Highlight of the experience

During most of March and April I was on a Canadian tour, 19 cities, traveling from as far west as Calgary, AB going east across Canada all the way to Newfoundland. There weren’t many days off, but when I had one, I was able to find some fabulous restaurants and decided while I was in Canada I would only drink Canadian wines in an effort to familiarize myself with some of them.

I was glad I did. I found two that were impressive - to the point that I would write them down and make mention of them here.

While in Kichener, Ontario I enjoyed dinner at the Charcoal Steak House. I usually don’t order steak, but for some reason the filet sounded good. I found the perfect accompaniment in a glass (two to be honest) of the Pillitteri Cabernet sauvignon 2002 VQA from the Niagara Peninsula.

My other favorite was dinner at The Five Fisherman in Halifax,NS. After a fun day of shopping in an area with great boutiques and gift shops we stopped here for dinner. The all-you-care-to-eat salad and mussel bar was just what we needed. The mussels were divine with a splendid unoaked chardonnay - 20 Bees, Four Mile Creek , again from the Niagara region.

The only unfortunate part of the story is I’ve had several of my favorite wine shops try to order them for me and they can’t seem to get them.

Recommendations

I’ll just have to wait ‘til I’m back in Canada again! Hopefully it won’t be long - the shows and the people were terrific.
