On the recommendation of my friend’s Italian chef/teacher we went to Oro Restaurant.
What made the moment
Appetizer: Octupus and scallop with a fennel/tomato/chorizo sauce
Primi: Squid Ink linguini with a seafood ragout
We paired the first to courses with a Cave Springs Riesling and a Sauvignon Blanc (from New Zealand I believe)
Secondi: Ontario Lamb Tasting. The lamb was prepared 5 ways.
The Lamb Chop served over gnocchi and pulled lamb osso bucco paired well with a Blason, Malbec, Mendoza 2006
The Lamb Stew, the Smoked Ribs and the Rump Roast were each sparked off by a McManis Cabernet, 2005
And finnally, a lovely earthy Pinot Noir from Castle Rock (2006) paired perfectly with a lamb sausage, that had a clove spicing.
Whose talent made the memory notable
The food was excellent. We ordered and drank each wine by the glass so we could taste all the different combinations. The whole evening was great. Enzo our waiter really made the night special.
Recommendations
I agree with my friend’s chef/teacher, Oro is a fantastic restaurant and a memorable night out!
The Cave Springs Riesling was really lovely. And the reds matched with the lamb, were magical.
