Power of Minimalism

According to Wikipedia, ”Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features and core self expression...Achieving more with less is the very essence of economics.”

Musically, the reference says, “the term (is) applied to music which displays…repetition or stasis; emphasis on consonant harmony; a steady pulse. Minimalist music can sometimes sound similar to different forms of electronic music...it is often the case that the end result is similar, but the approach is not.”

As the essence of economics, minimalism is naturally controversial, yet imbues powers to such masters in their art as Mr. Ringland.

Chris Ringland Wine

After Chris Ringland established himself as a major talent, producing prized basket-press wines under the label “Three Rivers”, he lost the rights to the name.

When an American winery laid claim to the moniker, Mr. Ringland simply renamed his wine “Chris Ringland”, addressing his labels with the source of the grapes, such as Randalls Hill Vineyard in the Barossa Valley.

Recognized for his artistry, Chris has been invited by many others to consult on or lead in making wine under different lables across a range of styles, price points and geographic regions from Australia and New Zealand to North and South American as well as back to the home for his inspiration, Europe.

Winemaker

Chris Ringland (CEO)

Chris Ringland is a winemaker whose name can push a bottle of wine into four digit price range and who is highly sought after the world over. But, at the heart of it, he is simply a man with a life long passion for great wine.

His career began at a young age when he dug up the family’s backyard in Auckland, NZ, planted grape vines and produced his first wine. When he was older he went on to study oenology at Roseworthy in South Australia.

Upon graduation, he returned home, gaining experience at the New Zealand wineries Selaks and Corbans and with the Government Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Chris then traveled, working harvests in Australia and the United States.

In the late 1980’s, he settled in the Barossa region of Australia and started working at Rockford winery where he is still Chief Winemaker. Much in demand, he is also a winemaker at 3 Rings, Pillar Box Red, Bodegas Alto Moncayo, Bodegas El Nido (both in Spain), La Corte (Puglia), and RBJ.

Non-interventionist, minimal manipulation methods...a major influence.

In 1994, Chris purchased his own vines and now lives in and among his vineyard. His personal philosophy starts with harvesting great grapes; he then lets the grapes be, adopting a hands-off approach. He credits Rockford CEO Robert O’Callaghan’s non-interventionist, minimal manipulation methods to winemaking as a major influence.

Following a Burgundy-style model, and making very serious, small-scale wine from an individual parcel of grapes, Chris has produced some of the world’s finest wines. He has incurred the interest of Robert Parker who often gives 99-100 points on his 100-point scale, making Chris’s wines hard to find but a special treat when you do.
