Origins : Canada
About
Canadian wine is produced in Southern Ontario and southern British Columbia with the two largest producing regions being Niagara Peninsula and the Okanagan Valley, respectively. With a cold climate, most growing regions are found along the southern Canadian border with the US.
Numerous old world varietals were brought into Canada at about the same time as grapes were first planted in other “New World” regions like the California and Australia. Numerous export markets place high value on Canadian Ice Wines, which use a range of grape varieties but can be defined by the particular grape-picking process.
In fact, Canada represents one of the most sophisticated wine markets in the world. Along wtih local wines, imported product is well received from all regions. A mere 0.3% of the world population consumes a significant volume and value of wine on a relative basis in Canada.
