Origins : Eden Valley
About
Eden Valley is a region of rugged beauty sharing its western boundary with the Barossa Valley in the Barossa Wine Zone. The vineyards have a long history, first planted at the town of Eden Valley in 1847 by Englishman Joseph Gilbert. Not actually a valley, the varied, hilly terrain requires careful matching of site and varietal.
Eden Valley has a variety of soils, but the most common range from grey to brown and from loamy sand to clay loams. The cooler, dry climate are well suited for the production of white wines, notably Riesling and more recently Chardonnay.
A sub-region of the Valley is High Eden.
