About
Great Southern is a very large region in South West Australia Zone, almost a hundred miles long and over sixty miles wide. Ranging widely from maritime to continental, the region has many sub-regions including Albany, Mount Barker and Frankland River.
Much of the region is covered with old hardwoods, Karri, Marri, Jarrah and other eucalypts. The soils vary depending on the prevelent tree; around the Marri the soils are gravelly, sandy lateritc soils and the Karri soils are heavier, clayey loam. Most varietals of grapes, red and white, are grown in this verisitale region.
