Origins : Hunter
About
The oldest viticulture area, the Hunter Region, encompasses both the upper and lower Hunter Valley, linked together by the Hunter River.
The Lower Hunter Valley, lies in the relatively flat valley at the foot of the Brokenback Range, while the Upper Valley benefits from its undulating hills and proximity to a number of rivers.
Both areas of the Hunter are complicated by very hot climates and rainfall occurring between January and April, blanketing the harvest. However, the rain, the humidity, the afternoon cloud cover and weak sea breezes mediate the impact of the heat and allow for the production of notable Semillon and fine, soft berry Shiraz.
