Origins : Robe
About
Located in the Limestone Coast Zone, Robe, is Australia’s newest official wine region, having been declared in 2006. The climate is cool and strongly maritime, being influenced by the Southern Ocean to the west and lakes to the east. Robe has a wide variety of soil types ranging from calcareous sand, through rendzinas, to terra rosa on the limestone ridges.
Most grapes from Robe are currently transported to major wineries in Mt Benson to the North, or Coonawarra or Padthaway, although small processing facilities are being established in the region.
