About Chardonnay
Chardonnay is easily one of the most popular and widely planted grapes in the world—most notably in the United States, France, Australia and New Zealand. As of 2005, Chardonnay was the most widely planted varietal in Australia.
This versatile wine, ranges from straw-yellow in cooler climates to deep brassy, gold in warmer climates. The nose of the Chardonnay also shows great variability from unoaked—soft fruity, apple or peach, to an oaked—smoky, vanilla or butter. Ageing potential depends heavily on production method.
Chardonnay is also an important component in Champagne and is in demand of sparkling wine producers who want to produce a Champagne-like wine.
