Varietal : Marsanne
About Marsanne
Marsanne, a white wine varietal from Rhone region, is one of eight grape varieties allowed in the Cotes du Rhone appellation. Besides fairly recent and limited plantings in California, Australia is the new home for Marsanne with around 250 acres of vineyards planted.
Susceptibility to mildew, bunch, rot, berry cracking and excessive juicing at harvest, make Marsanne a challenging grape to grow but the warm, dry climates of Australia are proving to be ideal conditions and providing a renaissance for this historic grape.
The round, medium-gold to amber berries produce deep-colored wine that is also full-bodied with a low acidity. Marsanne’s aroma can suggest almond-paste or citrus, mixed with perfume.
