Varietal : Petit Verdot
About Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is one of the lesser-known Bordeaux blend grapes that is developing a new lease as a promising new varietal in Australia.
Due to its long growing season in colder climates, Petit Verdot has historically been susceptible to frost and disease. Warmer climates in Australia’s Barossa and McLaren Vale regions are ushering Petit Verdot into a renaissance as natural sibling of the similarly bold Shiraz.
A strong flavor, a deep color and richness in tannins, has made this low yield grape an ideal seasoning in Cabernet blends. Petit Verdot ages slowly, contributing complexity to a Bordeaux or providing a range of flavor - most often violet - to straight varietals.
