Varietal : Roussanne
About Roussanne
Roussanne is a white wine grape grown originally in the Rhone River, with berries distinguished by their redish-brown, russet color. Traditionally used in blends with Marsanne to make the classic wines Crozes-Hermitage AOC, Hermitage AOC and Saint-Joseph AOC, Rousanne is also allowed in appellation Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOC.
Though a difficult variety to grow, with vulnerability to mildew, poor resistance to drought and wind, late and/or uneven ripening, and irregular yields, Roussanne can produce wines with exceptional richness. Flavors can include honey and pear, and aromas are often flowery with hints of lime and herbal tea.
