Varietal : Sangiovese
About Sangiovese
Sangiovese, or the blood of Jove, is the classic grape of Tuscany. It is the major component in blends such as Chianti, and single varietals such as Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Morellino di Scansano.
This thick-skinned, light-colored grape is late ripening and high in tannin. The wine it produces is blood orange in color often with a brown edge even when it is young. An excellent Sangiovese will have aromas of raspberry, dark cherries, with hints of tobacco, liqorice and leather, with good tannins, that age exceptionally well.
Recognized as a superior grape in Italy, Sangiovese is becoming increasingly popular as a red wine grape in Australia.
